Trainings on New Business Models in Rural Electrification in Sub-Saharan Africa

September 2013 – November 2013

The Renewables Academy (RENAC)

TREE (Transfer Renewable Energy and Efficiency) was a capacity building and know-how transfer project, realized in several project phases. TREE was a further education project especially for the public sector and financial institutions. It offered comprehensive training on technical, legal and economic aspects of renewable energy, with a focus on innovative solutions and business models for off-grid regions, including the deployment of solar home systems. The focus of these Berlin-based trainings was on off-grid business models, green mini-grids, and how to design the parameters for successful rural electrification initiatives. The workshop also included financial modeling and cost-benefit analyses of different rural electrification strategies.

Trainings with 30+ Pacific Island Nations on Renewable Energy Policy and Strategy

April 2014 – February 2015

International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

This project, delivered jointly with the International Renewable Energy Agency and in partnership with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, consisted of delivering a comprehensive set of trainings on how to scale-up renewable energy deployment in island regions, with a focus on establishing the right policy and regulatory frameworks for islands nations.

The workshops took place in Fiji for a wide range of regulators, utility representatives, and policymakers from over thirty (30) countries in the Pacific Islands Region. This included the development of a comprehensive Training Manual, which covered a wide range of topics in island clean energy policy, including how to design appropriate net metering, net billing, and feed-in tariff frameworks, as well as how to undertake utility-led procurement strategies, including competitive tendering, for island utilities.

The Project resulted in a joint Webinar between E3 Analytics, IRENA and Leonardo Energy, which can be found here.
