Analysis of the Economics of Developing New Electricity Generation Technologies in Island Contexts

This project involved developing a global analysis of the economic characteristics of different island grids and island regions, and assessing their suitability for the deployment of new electricity generation technologies. Given the higher costs of electricity generation in island regions, the opportunities to pilot innovative and potentially breakthrough technologies are correspondingly greater. However, since there are tens of thousands of different islands around the world, this analysis developed a methodology to filter through the various islands in terms of size, population trends, and income levels among other factors to determine some of the most promising areas for the deployment of new technologies.
